1. 01Day 1: confirm your checking account has no monthly fee. If it does, pick a no-fee replacement and open it.
2. 02Day 2: open a high-yield savings account at an FDIC-insured online bank. Verify the insurance on fdic.gov.
3. 03Day 3: set an automatic transfer from checking to savings for the day after payday, even if it is $10.
4. 04Day 4: put every recurring bill on autopay from checking, and set one calendar reminder to review them quarterly.
5. 05Day 5: check your withholding. Grab your latest pay stub and run the numbers in the tax-brackets tool.
6. 06Day 6: the age-based step. Under 18: ask a parent about a custodial account. 18+: if you have any earned income, open a Roth IRA. Working with a 401(k) match: set your contribution to at least the full match.
7. 07Day 7: write down every login in a password manager, turn on two-factor for each account, and check your credit report at annualcreditreport.com.
